We have all done it, walked into a fly shop and grabbed a rod off the rack, wiggled it and then taken it out in the yard or parking lot so see how it casts. It feels great casting but how does it fish??? Some rods may cast well but fish like crap or just not fit you fishing style so we are taking the guess work out of
’’How Does it Fish?’’
Here is how it works:
Give us a call at
800-435-5353 to make sure the rod you are interested in is available before you come to the shop. If it is, we will fill out the
“Try Before you Buy” agreement with all the required information and a form of payment. Then, we will hand you the rod and you are off to the river!! You can keep the rod for up to
5 days max.
The cost to you is
$10.00 per day for any of the rods listed below. You can keep the rod for a maximum of
five (5) days for a total out of pocket expense of $50.00 plus the optional insurance if you choose. If you like the rod, you can take the total amount spent off the purchase price of a new Sage rod.
If you do not like that specific model, sign up and take another fly rod to the river for up to 5 days. The price is again $10.00 per day for up to 5 days with a maximum total of $50.00 for the rod plus the optional insurance if you choose.
Let’s say that the second Sage rod you decided to demo is the “must have” fly rod for you. You have tried both models for 3 days each and have spent $60.00 to demo the rod. You can now purchase the rod of choice and take that $60.00 off of the retail price! Pretty simple deal!
The bottom line is: the total amount you spend trying any of the rods can be taken off of the retail price of the rod when you are ready to purchase. There are no hidden fees or surcharges for this program. Demo all the rods if you want for two day each and you can take $180.00 off any Sage rod they make!
Note: If you purchased the optional insurance, we do not apply that toward your credit. It is an optional purchase to cover accidental breakage while the rod is in your possession whether you break the rod or not. Without the optional insurance plan, the rod repair fee is $50.00 if accidental breakage occurs
We believe that fishing a rod will give you the “real world” feel. Buying a fly rod can be a daunting task, reading others reviews, talking with friends, etc. but the only way to know if it will work for you is to
FISH IT.
Here is a list of available rods we have for you to ‘’Try Before You Buy’’:- Sage Approach – 9’ – 5 weight – 4 piece
- Sage Response – 9’ – 5 weight – 4 piece

We believe that the line weights of the different Sage rod series listed above will give you the best overall feel and action of the specific series you are interested in. You can then make a decision to go up or down in line weight when you are ready to purchase a rod depending on your personal preference and desired type of fishing.
We are limiting the number of rods out to an individual to
one specific series which will be easier for you to keep track of and easier for us to manage. It will also allow others to try the other series of rods we have in this program at the same time. We feel that fishing one specific series for a day or two will give you the best overall feel and action to help in making the right decision.
