Orvis Endorsed guide and instructor, Mick Stefan, grew up in south Florida playing hooky from school to go salt-water spin fishing. He discovered the joy of fly fishing in Colorado in 1969 and gave up spin fishing for life.
During his thirty years as owner of an investment management and retirement planning firm, his wife, Fay, often suggested that he get away and de-stress by fly fishing. As the years proceeded and he has been able to spend more time at home and away from his firm, Fay continues to encourage him to help her de-stress by getting away to fly fish.
Mick enjoys his role at the Blue Quill as a guide and instructor especially teaching the basics of fly fishing on the beginner and intermediate levels. In addition, he is BQA’s fly fishing coordinator at the nationally famous Tumbling River Ranch in Grant, Colorado, located deep in the Pike National Forest. The ranch recently decided to offer fly fishing instruction to their guests and turned to the Blue Quill Angler for help. The program has been very successful.
