These are a heavy wire hook with a nice fine, sharp point and moderate sized barb. Purchased the 1/0 size and they are slightly smaller than the Tiemco 8089 size 6s that I have also been tying with. The gape isn't as big as the 8089 which restricts how much taper you can put on the belly of a deer hair bass bug. Given the hook weight I will use these for divers or sunk bass flies and stick with my 8089s for surface lures.

Just recieved these and they look like very sturdy hooks, much heavier wire than the TMC 8089s I have been tying with - by the way the U502 size 1/0 is slightly smaller than a size 6 TMC 8089 - go figure!. They look great for divers or sinking flies but the wire is probably a bit heavy for surface lures IMHO. Haven't tried these on the water yet so these comments are based on a deskside review only.

Great value for the price! The 2/0 size work perfectly for deer hair bass bugs.
