Designed by Tim and Team USA's Pete Erickson, these powerful, moderate- to faster-action "long-light" European-style nymphing rods deliver critical feel and line control with an added bonus: They'll actually cast a dry fly when your feeling dirty. An optional competition package (sold separately $74.99) includes two 6" extensions that add extra reach, either 6" or 12", a screw-in fighting butt and counterweight washers that fine-tune balance. The ultimate fishing competition rod, bar none.

Echo Shadow II 10.5’ – 4 Weight – 4 Piece and Competition Kit
Overall, I’m very satisfied with this rod. This is my third Echo fly rod. Well fabricated, versatile, and affordable. The extra length comes in handy when you need to reach that spot-on-the-spot while tight-line nymphing. The Competition Kit extends the 4 weight rod an additional 6 inches. I found out that the other additional 6” extension in the kit is for the 3 weight version. The counter balance and fighting butt are the handiest features of the kit. I still needed to add some lead core as backing to balance the rod perfectly, but I imagine that would be expected for any eleven foot long rod. The extended butt was comfortable against my chest and helped me leverage wise to land some hard fighting 18 to 20 inch rainbows on the South Platte. I have only fished this rod Euro Nymph style and cannot attest to its conventional casting ability. However, if it’s anything like my Echo Carbon rods, it should be fine in this secondary role. My other Euro Nymph rod is a Temple Fork Outfitter BVK 8’ – 3 weight - 4 piece with the 2 foot extension kit. Given the size and healthy fight of fish found in Colorado’s Gold Medal waters, I’m very pleased I made the upgrade. My purchase through Blue Quill Anglers was fast and efficient. They provided excellent customer support and answered all of my questions.
