Getting kids involved in fly fishing is extremely important to all of us at the Blue Quill Angler. Fly fishing teaches kids important values, such as the importance of all life on our planet, that need to be passed on from generation to generation. They learn the importance of conservation as well as the reasoning behind it. Kids acquire new skills and learn many fascinating facts about trout, their environment, and feeding habits but most importantly…how to catch them on a fly rod!
Kids ages 9-14 learn the basics of fly fishing. Our instructors cover casting, knot tying, rigging the rods, fly selection, and fly tying. In the afternoon on one of the beautiful Buchanan Ponds, the kids get a chance to put their newfound skills to the test. The Buchanan Ponds are heavily stocked and tend to hold some very nice trout and that makes this class very exciting.
This course begins at 9:00 a.m. and finishes at 4:30 p.m. Students need to bring their lunches, sturdy pair of shoes, a rain jacket, sunscreen, polarized sunglasses, and a hat. BQA provides a rod, reel, and all required terminal tackle. Also, the class fee of $75.00 covers the $15.00 access fee to the Buchanan ponds.
